Dear Diary . . .
Lots of things have been going on, mostly surrounding the upcoming finals in the karaoke contest I'm in, which will be held tomorrow night. I have been working on a new song, and I still am not quite certain that I will be singing that one.
I really, really wish that I hadn't felt the need to slam dunk the qualifying round by using "When You're Good To Mama", but what's done is done, and I just have to deal with it. So now I am left with the possibility of using Mama again, or going for "All That Jazz" instead. Then I need another song, one which is perhaps quieter and shows more finesse and range. I've been mulling over "Hard Candy Christmas", "I Will Always Love You", and a possible new song for me, "I Dreamed a Dream".
The problem I have with practicing is that my karaoke machine can't change keys, and I need to go down two keys to sing it properly...which means that I can't practice it accurately at home. My friend Claude has a machine that will do the key change, so I went over there this afternoon and practiced for an hour. By the time I was done, I felt very confident about the song, so we will see what happens tomorrow, and what final decision I make.
So think happy thoughts for me, and I will post what happens when I get home early Friday. I only need to get first or second place to qualify for the National Karaoke Finals in Laughlin, which will be held in September. Since there are only 7 women vying for the two places, my odds are good.
But the gods know, I really, really need this win. I can pay my own way into the Nationals, if I can roust up the money, but I really need this win, because it's worth about $1000 to me in cash, hotel, and entry fees.
Believe me, Miss Rosie has a real case of butterflies going right now!
One question for everyone, especially those of you who have seen "Mama". Would you go with it again, in that it's been three weeks since they have seen it, and they really, really loved it the first time, or would you avoid it, and do two new songs, even if there is no assurance that the new songs would be a slam dunk?
Please, offer your opinion from the standpoint of the judges, would doing the same song make you think I was a one-trick pony, or would you enjoy seeing a great performance all over again? Also remember, you are choosing someone that you think will be able to win in Laughlin, and thereby shower your location with reflected glory.
Finally, let's say I decide to do Mama again, should I then do a quieter song, or should I change costumes and do "All That Jazz" to really stop the show?
Let your voices be heard!
